JESUS’ BIRTH Prophecy

In the Old Testament, the Prophet Micah says, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” Micah 5:2 NIV.

This prophecy was fulfilled:  “After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem …” Matthew 2:1 NIVBethlehem was in the district of Ephrathah and was a small village at the time of Jesus’ birth.

So, this prophecy came true, and it was written at least 650 years before Jesus was born. We know this because Micah 1:1 says, “The word of the Lord that came to Micah of Moresheth during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah—the vision he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.” Hezekiah is a known historical figure mentioned on a cuneiform prism called the Sennacherib Prism. It describes Assyrian King Sennacherib’s conquests. This clay artifact was created about 690 B.C. and says King Hezekiah did not ‘submit to my yoke.’  It is archeological evidence for the dating of Micah’s writings.
