Isaiah 11:2-3 says, “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord- and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.”
Isaiah prophesied during the reigns of three Jewish kings of Judah: Uzziah, Ahaz, and Hezekiah (Isaiah 1:1). He was called to be a prophet when King Uzziah died (Isaiah 6:1), and Isaiah recorded the death of Sennacherib, a King of the Assyrian Empire. King Uzziah is a known historical figure, and he died circa 740 B.C.; King Sennacherib died in 681 B.C.
Did this ancient prophecy about the spirit of the Lord come true? YES! The Spirit of the Lord came upon Jesus when John baptized him: “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17.
