How many Old Testament prophecies about Jesus are there?

There are about 365 Old Testament prophecies fulfilled by Jesus. These occur in: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Hebrews, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Micah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. If you want to read these prophecies, begin with Isaiah, Psalms, Genesis, and Zechariah. These four have the most prophecies.

We can winnow down the 365 prophecies to 109 unique and non-repetitive ones. Each represents something written hundreds of years before Jesus was even born and then directly fulfilled through Jesus. As such, it is powerful evidence that Jesus is the Son of God.

For example, Hosea 11:1 says, “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.”  The Book of Hosea was most likely written between 750-725 B.C., hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth. This prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus’ father and mother took their son Jesus with them to Egypt: “So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘Out of Egypt I called my son.’” Matthew 2:14-15.

Some Christians don’t read the Old Testament. If readers ignore the Old Testament, then they miss all the prophecies! Read the Old Testament and see how it foretells Jesus.
