What is sIn?

Sin should always be written with a capital “I” because that’s what sIn is about.   Some people are offended today when we mention the word sIn.

What is sIn? The word ‘sIn’ means to violate what God says is right and wrong (Ephesians 2:3), turn away from God and go our own way (Isaiah 53:6), and rebel against God (Deuteronomy 9:7). In 1 Romans 3:22-23 we read, “There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”

Why do people object to the concept of sIn? One of the fastest-growing religions today is Self-Worship. It is faith in oneself over faith in God. It has phrases like “Your Truth” and “You Only Live Once.” What about those two phrases?

YOUR TRUTH: Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6. Jesus is the truth, not you or me.

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE: Jesus said, “Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet he shall live.” John 11:25. Your soul will live after your body dies!

Self-Worship is about me, myself, and I. This is where people, rather than God, define morality. Heinous crimes have been committed where people relied on their own or their government’s version of morality instead of God. Adolf Hitler’s massacre of 12 million people in death camps is one of hundreds of such examples.

We don’t decide what is sInful; God does.

If God calls it a sIn, then our opinions don’t matter.
